i'm in the triad. basically it was like "hey good for yall :yeshrug:"

hornets and panthers run it up here

Panthers are statewide ... CarolinaS wide .

Hornets are western NC .

Canes Eastern NC. ..

but when I was in the Triad at the time, I was on business that had me around a heavy :mjpls: presence so maybe that's skewing my view .

But I do remember the media in the Triad being all over it.

I think much of their fanbase is a certain group of people who wanna go out and have a few drinks around people with "common interests" :mjpls:

When I'm doing lil business stuff in the Triangle , Raleigh especially, and showing face , a Canes discussion often pops up ... I started believing it was definitely meant to separate the real :mjpls: from the fake :mjpls:

... if your aren't able to contribute to a Canes discussion ... :camby:

Fukk around and lose some good bread not being able to name at least a couple players off that Cup team. :whew:

I often wonder how big the Hornets would have gotten around here had they not moved to New Orleans. By then the team had enjoyed some success in the playoffs, the Hive was lit at times. I thought it would be like the Panthers when they started out; everyone had been fans of other teams, so the argument was that you needed to have a generation that came up with the Panthers to have that relationship with them. I remember when I moved here and the Bobcats were born, it was like "whateva" out here in Raleigh. The radio broadcasts of the games stayed getting bumped for dook basketball or Canes hockey, and the same with a TV broadcast. If dook was playing, they was getting the broadcast. I wonder if they had stayed and developed that relationship with the fans, the love could have been state-wide instead of just Western NC and the Triad.

Possibly man ... just that initial move rubbed people the wrong way and folks are just starting to let that go over the past few seasons ... lost a lot of momentum with the move and then the name change ... Bob Johnson's antics ... I dunno ...

If none of that happened and the zo, grandmama type trajectory could have continued uninterrupted , then yeah , I think so .

Hornets games will always get bumped for CBB in the Triangle unless they win that chip.

My moms from St Louis and I've spent a lot of time out there

Cards run that town and everything else is an afterthought

Lowkey when it comes to NHL teams outside the traditional boundaries of "Hockey Country", I think much of their fanbase is a certain group of people who wanna go out and have a few drinks around people with "common interests" :mjpls:

Well it wasn't a Cards town from 1995-04. The cardinals were still recovering from the awful August Busch III era, the Blues were still the Blues come playoff time (don't let that fool you. Blues fans are one of the most passionate in sports), and the Rams delivered the greatest football years the city will ever see.

Winning and competent ownership cure all.

Same thing was said about St. Louis and the NFL....which is bullshyt.

Have an owner and front office that knows what the hell they're doing and cares about the community. Then people will come.

Yup, that's the big key, if an owner is all about the money (Kroenke, Loria) then you aren't going to see the franchise succeed. The main goal should be about winning and building a great franchise because that is what brings in the money. The most recent franchises that moved Rams and Thrashers are examples of ownership wasn't either not committed to winning in their market or weren't committed to the franchise at all.

oh...its a hockey team :leon: :beli:

Surprised NHL would be the first league to make the Vegas leap :ehh:

Right. Out all professional sports organizations... :what:

NHL has been holding their post season awards show in Vegas since 2009 plus, as was mentioned in this thread, the T-Mobile Arena was built specifically for a hockey team. There's been a site for a year and a half to drum up support for the NHL in Vegas.

and throw Old Man Bidwill into the list too. Course he wasn't the only reason the Cardinals left (thanks Schoemehl and McNary !), but was still a cheap b*stard nonetheless.

Vegas just built a brand spanking new arena so:ehh:

Can't see how the NHL can expand tho.. outside of Vegas and Quebec is there a demand for the sport?
