Panthers save over $5 million in cap space by changing Luke Kuechly's contract

The Carolina Panthers saved a bunch of cap space today by re-structuring the contract of middle linebacker Luke Kuechly.

According to a report by Field Yates at ESPN, they’ll get $5.1 million more in cap room for 2018 by converting $6.8 million of Kuechly’s money into a signing bonus.

Kuechly gets a well-deserved influx of cash and the team gets enough cap room to make a splash before the regular season begins.

Later in the morning, the Panthers traded for Lions offensive tackle Corey Robinson, who only has a base salary of $705,000 this year, per Over the Cap. That means they still have plenty leftover to pursue a significant name in free agency.

Solid work by the front office.
