Switzerland(which i know lefties love) has relatively lenient gun control for Europe, and has the third-lowest homicide rate, what gives?
"relatively lenient"?

"There is no point taking the gun out of your home in Switzerland because it is illegal to carry a gun in the street."

"A special permit is needed to carry a gun in public - and is usually issued only to people who work in security, once they have passed theoretical and practical exams"
Switzerland guns: Living with firearms the Swiss way - BBC News

"In order to purchase most weapons, the purchaser must obtain a weapon acquisition permit (Art. 8 WG). Swiss citizens over the age of 18 who are not psychiatrically disqualified nor identified as posing security problems, and who have a clean criminal record can request such a permit."

"In order to purchase munition the buyer must follows the same legal rules like for buying guns. The buyer can only buy munition for guns he/she is legally owning and must provide the following information to the seller"

No "Lefty" loves Switzerland lol, they're one of the most conservative, neo-liberal banks-uber-alles xenophobic and islamophobic countries in Europe :dead:

They have low homicide rate because people who have guns at home...are people who keep them AFTER military ("militia") training. It's not random people who show up and buy guns at the local Walmart :heh:

And what does it say about the US if Switzerland has so many guns in circulation, yet hardly ever has gun-related tragedies? People kill people, ok, so what's up with Americans that make them kill people, but the same doesn't apply to the Swiss ? :jbhmm:(and don't give me the bs "homogenous" argument, Switzerland has 4 official languages, a lot of immigrants and they even hate French and Italians :dead:)

So did anyone actually read the report or we basing it on that one news source because I typically like to read the actual numbers and methodology (seen too many anti-marijuana legalization articles that misrepresent results to trust even news sources that are solid).

edit: I want stricter gun laws and background checks, not an outright ban but it'd be more interesting to me how a ban affects accident related gun deaths and suicide rates.

dead7 with the devastating point on Switzerland :gladbron::gladbron::ohlawd::ooh:

:dead:
:heh: wasnt meant to be devastating.
If we are going to look at countries with stricter gun laws and lower crime, looking at those with looser laws and lower crime seems relevant no?
I havent even hinted at the nations with stricter gun laws and higher crime...:sas2:

but clearly regulation isnt the determining factor or as big a factor as is often insinuated in gun related crime.:manny:

Hollywood and the music industry? :manny:

I really do believe that it's impossible to be an American gun owner and not see yourself as a movie character under specific circumstances subconsciously. In other words, you can be the most self-controlled American gun owner but under a particularly stressful situation your brain may just do a quick leap to: "What did that character do again? He/She was in the same exact situation I'm in right now."

Living in America you understand that people just aren't relaxed, and a lot of it has to do with them trying to align their interactions/experiences with movies/series. Or worse, a media that sensationalizes damn near everything.

The single greatest difference between Americans and Swiss is poverty. Swiss are relatively rich across the board. Americans are not. Theres where the difference in gun violence comes from. Having riches outweighs the hetero/homogenous societies.
