either he was secretly ghostwriting Gambino's mixtape stuff or he figured Glover retired from rap so he can take his style and run with it without issue. There was no hype other than the fact that Chance the Rapper's dad is Chicago DNC and is colleagues and friends with Barack Obama and Rahm Emanuel.

Rahm's brother Ari Emanuel headed WME-IMG, the world's largest talent agency, now known as Endeavor and IMG, which basically makes him one of the most powerful men in entertainment.

Basically, Chance was the most blatant and extreme example of an industry plant in Hip Hop history.
