This is pure madness, plus it's impossible until there will be 2 separate conferences, how many contenders for the 8th seed would start to lose on purpose the very last games of the season?
EVERYONE would rather get the 1st pick instead of a beatdown against the 1st seed.
Secondarily, how I said before it's simply impossible with 2 conferences in the question.
Suns ended the season 48-34, so they should've gotten the 1st pick meanwhile the Hawks 38-44 in a weaker conference would've been the 8th seed in the PO? (then they would've been screwed in either way)

I understand the difference in the conferences, but I would still leave it like I said

I don't believe there's 1 player in the league that would rather miss the playoffs for the #1 draft pick

I think it's best to reward the teams trying to make the playoffs

for the bottom 14 teams they send a rep to the lottery like always...but then they set up a slapfight tournament.
Whomever takes the most slaps without flinching or quitting gets #1.

This is what happens when you have a system in place that gives the worst team the best odds. There will be teams that want to be that worst team. The only real solution is to not give the worst team the best odds.

They should have a rotation schedule. Right now, base it on last years draft pick order, then you have the first team go to the end of the line every year. Second goes first, third goes second and so on. This way, tanking doesn't alter your draft pick location.

Or at least don't guarantee them a top 4 spot.
