Definitely Golddust.

Didn't think much of it as a kid, but now I realize how out there / risky that was to play in 1996. Could've SO easily been cringe-worthy and a massive flop but Dustin pulled it off.

Same with Taker, for that matter.

Edit: and Mohamed Hassan. The heat, that entrance, his conviction ... haven't had a heel like that in a long time.

Bill Alfonso. Really, most gimmicky managers, but Alfonso kind of made me feel like RVD WAS a show...the way boxing managers are. Just obnoxious and loud. Got you hype.

Characters like Ken Shamrock, Jerry Flynn, Ernest Miller, Steve Blackman and Dan Severn, especially considering the rise of MMA and how now you've got guys like current Brock, Kyle O'Reilly, and even Shinsuke Nakamura.

Looking back, those guys might have been a bit ahead of their times.

Bob Backlund

Great call. This character (and Bob's transformation) is so brilliant in hindsight. An older me could have grasped what I was watching a little better.

This character could maybe cook even more in today's environment, but they don't know how to book character wrestlers anymore.
