Like someone else said, there are some quality artist getting shine, but there are still fifty leven garbage, can only make singles ass nikkas in the game. Nothing is fukking with the golden era, made a tribute on IG to salute classic hip hop albums that came out 20 years ago in 93...we're not seeing quality production like that and that was just one year. 89-96 was so serious.

I agree with everything EXCEPT the Kendrick part, I really believe it started with Lupe Fiasco. Lupe really was the lyrical breath of Greg air that mainstream needed back when he dropped in 06. F&L and The Cool really set a lyrical and creative paththat artists such as Kendrick, Cole, and even Drake could follow down. Lupe doesn't get NEARLY enough respect for being one the absolute dopest artists in Mainstream Hip Hop the past 6 or so years...

people cant get past his weird egotistical for no reason behavior for one. I'll give you Lupe. I know I tend to forget about him due to his political views and him just being a cornball type of person. but ok

I see your point here, in that Lupe was maybe the only viable, semi-mainstream artist that was really holding hip hop down during an overall rough stretch, but, imo, hes not in Kendrick's league.

I intensely dislike Lupe as a person. I try to separate artist from man, because its all about the music --- but its virtually impossible with Lupe. Since he hit the scene, Lupe has been an obnoxious fck boi in the worst way. I swear, Soulja Boy is more mature.

Lupe got bars. But his albums are overrated, and 'Superstar' wanted to make me shoot a niqqa in the face it was so annoying.

:why:

For all this talk of a golden era, there still hasn't been a streak of GREAT/CLASSIC albums back to back from these so called leaders of the new school.

I won't even talk about the early and mid 90's, shyt even back in 03-05 There was Diplomatic Immunity, GRODT, Trap Musik, Tha Carter 2 ,Documentary, Purple Haze,TM101,College Dropout, Food & Liquor etc..those nikkas put a STAMP on that generation, I'm just not seeing it with these new nikkas. Look at the lineup..Wale,Big Sean,J Cole,Drake,Meek Millz,Wiz..none of these nikkas have classic albums or anything close to it (maybe So Far Gone for Drake).

I think nikkas are just so happy that we're out of the gangster/trap era and these "regular guy" rappers are spitting supposedly "bars" again. They're so thirsty for their real hip hop they'll put all these nikkas on a pedestal when nobody aside from Kendrick has made a classic effort. I'll take the Jeezy,Dipset,TI,50,Wayne era over this hipster/post 808's shyt anyday.

Lupe was great as an artist, but he didn't spurn change the way Kendrick is now. Lupe made some great music, and he was basically the exception to the rule for what was out. Drake and Kendrick have both not only made great music, but you can see their influence on the direction that the game is going now. I think Drake and Kendrick dropped too far after Lupe, and are too different from Lupe, to really attribute their paths to his.

Agreed. The era has to be judged on the RECORDS, not on the artists or their potential. I think we have plenty of talent, but it's all about how the albums turn out.

That's pretty much what it is. +The suburbs are the center of the culture now & the dudes who were excluded from the game & stayed silent on the sidelines for years finally now have representatives to cheerlead, to prove something, but the only thing that's being proven right now is what was always known, the burbs is not hiphop. :manny:

i just came to realization I just can't relate to this generation, this music just isn't for me
I can still listen to all the albums I enjoyed in the past, just like I can still listen to Isaac Hayes records and enjoy them

you got people calling food and liquor classic, when did this happen?

People forget Kanye is creator of the era we are now in, because he gave the non-gangster rappers a lane, and was a pioneer

Production has taking a serious nose dive when it had been steadily improving in the mid 2000's

lets be real the last classic rap album was the blueprint or Get Rich or Die Trying
the records on those albums hold up the test of time Many Men still sounds fresh
A lot of tracks on Blueprint hold up especially the one's BInk produced, because they were incredible pieces of music instrumental wise

I thought TM101 was a classic, but it sounds dated now, and it was unbelievable when it drop, however for the sake of argument I'll still say its a classic just off impact alone

I like kendrick's album, but not really I skipped around to the tracks i fukked wit, wasn't feeling the narrative he was trying to tell didn't even pay attention to it
after listened to it since the winter time

J cole, seems like the more popular he got the worst his music began, that song lights please off his old mixtape is better than anything on his new album

Mac Miller, get the fukk out here

School Boy Q, he need to drop a hot album, I like some of his tracks but he microwave to me, he not a better rapper than the Freeways' and other lower tier guys of past eras

Drake is the only rap superstar right now, but his two albums are not memorable, I was kicking with this chick a few days ago she was a drake fan and I asked her to name two songs of his last album she couldn't even do it

the art of making an album in general has been forgotten, and its really just a lack of structure in the music business, incompetence by the business side
and thats why the genre has been faltering
