Charles Oakley isn’t sure the Knicks can build as championship team around Carmelo Anthony.

The rugged former fan favorite said the Knicks need a complete overhaul, and isn’t sure what the team has in the $125 million man Anthony now that he is 30 years old and coming off left knee surgery.

“Is he still a superstar or is he going to be a complimentary player?” the 51-year-old Oakley said Tuesday during BTIG Charity Day on the East Side. “You win [17] games, I don’t know. He made the All-Star game. He played on the All-Star team, but he didn’t play during the season.”

When told Anthony makes superstar money, Oakley scoffed.

“I didn’t give him the contract,” Oakley said. “He won a championship at Syracuse. What’s the potential? They give a lot of people $100 million.”

Oakley saved his most venomous comments for owner James Dolan, who won’t even shake his hand, according to Oakley.

“I think that’s embarrassing. … I can’t even get a ticket to come to the Garden,” he said. “Who’s been saying what they should be doing the last 15 years?”

Melo was NEVER the problem for the Knicks being a disaster, but because he's making the big bucks he's an easy target for the idiots who don't want to look at anything else: roster, coaching, GM....

MJ wouldn't have done shyt with that team


Not even a knicks fan but the hate for him is just boring at this point

Prime MJ gets into the playoffs though if it's a weak conference probly.

Melo doesn't raise the play of the ppl around him. he's a great talent but he's not a great leader.

Jr had the best year of his career with melo.

But the only superstars to me are lebron, Durant, and maybe Chris Paul

Melo just needs someone who can run the floor for him. Give him a top five facillitating pg and watch what he does. Nowitzki won a ring as an elite scorer, but he did it with with one of the greatest PGs of our time. Not saying he is as good as Nowitzki, but I still believe he's an elite talent.

I think him and dirk are one in the same.

Both great scores that struggle to play defense. Dirk is more efficient but I think melo is a better rebounder for his position.:gang:


The similarities are almost creeepy when you think about:jay74:
