The thing that's kept NY hip hop down is the fact that the radio stations, magazines and websites in NY stopped caring about East Coast artists and fully oriented themselves to a national audience. G-Unit and Dipset beefing with and blackballing artists also contributed to media to focus elsewhere.

NY radio don't even play local artists unless they're big names nationally. Local TV will never interview them either.
