NC police officer shoots, injures teen that refused to drop gun

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A police officer in Charlotte shot and injured a teenager who refused to drop a gun, according to authorities.
WSOC reported that it happened at about 8:30 a.m. after police responded to a call about a large party with young people.
A teenager in the group had a gun, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Chief Rodney Monroe. Police said the officer told the teen to drop the gun, but the teenager ignored the commands.
The officer then fired three or four shots, Monroe said. The teenager was hit in the lower leg and wrist. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer, Paul Quinichett, was taken as a precaution to Novant Health Presbyterian. He has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident.
Quinichett has been employed with the CMPD since April 29, 2013, and is currently assigned to the Metro Division.
