Parents aren't involved.... a lot of kids in the black community are "oops" or trap babies.... so I doubt the parent(s) would take a genuine interest in their education...
I'm a substitute and I can tell their parents don't have an interest in their kids' education or exposing them to positive things. If their parents did, they'd be more engaged. After one day, I see to deal with at-risk and/or impoverished kids, you have to be a sociopath.

It's not a charter school issue. It's a cultural issue. It pains me as a rap fan to say but rap made education uncool in certain communities. Thugs and gangstas became Ts and Gs because it was their very last option. Now... "...fukk school, I'm too cool to go back/give me a mic, show me where the motherfukking studio's at..." - Eminem

There's a plethora of lyrics that denounce school, but ironically when rappers get on, their kids are in the best prep schools money can buy.

I say that over and over. If you took the so called bad schools and filled it with students that had involved parents that school would turn around damn near overnight. All people are doing with private and charter school is trying to avoid the families who treat school as a day care.

I'm a hypocrite on this issue. I'm staunchly against CS's but my kids attend one. I'm against them because of much of what the vid in the op states plus the fact that they are used as a guise to underfund public schools. I'm pro the charter school my kids attend because they are getting a level of education on par with many private schools. The wife like human is a teacher and i deal in public funding so we are able to navigate certain waters other parents cant. But for the very reason that necessitates those skill sets is why I'm staunchly against CS's. I firmly believe that a school should be quality regardless of zip codes or state, to take it a step further this really needs to be a constitutional amendment but thats a diff story.
Our kids school is one of the better ones. We were accepted to many before but i refused to send them because I saw thru the facade of what they had to offer vs how they presented themselves. The way we look at it we saving and stacking the very funds we would have ended putting in a private, so fiscally we still taking a hit just in case they take a dip in the quality of educating they provide and we have to make a switch.
