Cheetahs, despite having the look of the other 'big cats' are generally and genetically chill apparently and not with the shyts, hence why they are the best 'starter breeds' for people wanting to domesticate/own exotic pets, supposedly.
Horrible self awareness....leopard came prancing like 50 ft before he attacked

Leopards are the premier stalking animals in the animal kingdom. They are the epitome of stealth. The leopard is referred to as the Prince of Stealth like the lion is called the king of the jungle. It’s actually crazy to see how cats in general have evolved to stalk and just how much more adept at it Leopards are compared to other cats.

The problem is the fukking trucks engine idle drowned out the noise and allowed the leopard to take advantage of it. The cheetah never had a chance with that truck being there.

Wow, I didn't know that.

It's easy to get confused/or not be interested by big cats unless you have a fave (Panthers are fukking beautiful and the Tiger truly is king of the forest, not them frowsy looking Lions) 'cause they can look similar/samey, but it's only until recent that I've found that the temperments of Cheetahs are akin to brolic ass house cats and they get merked by shyt you'd think they should be able to fight back.
But in terms of human interaction/encounters, they are very docile, which can be a problem out in the wild in terms of preservation and whatever Zoo/wildlife shyt they be trying to do with young cubs and shyt to the point they started introducing support dogs to help them through the growing up process.

I can drop my Dogset flag for a minute and find this adorable, 'cause it is.

If the photographer was so sad about the cheetah getting got, he shoulda got the strap :mjtf:. Thought cheetahs were faster?
Cheetahs are much faster but they still require an opportunity to react. The truck engine was too loud. This is a prime example of human interference and why the requirement to have a minimum distance with observing wildlife USED to be enforced. But the business of safari tourism pushed and pushed the boundaries because they can charge more money and market their safari as more “immersive” than the next because they are willing to push the envelope by how close they get. Animals become accustomed to the proximity and human presence, safaris charge more and mishaps like this can happen.

Cheetah bone structure and musculature is unique among big cats which typically are all the same. Cheetahs evolved to the max for speed and that came at the cost sacrificing the otherwise robust frame of other big cats. Their bones aren’t as dense. Their chest cavity and ribs not as heavily bolstered with muscle because their lungs are bigger. Their metabolism entirely different than the other cats. Everything about their body is attuned to speed, not power. Even down to them being the only cats whose claws can’t retract. They evolved to no longer have those muscles and ligaments in their paws to save weight and unnecessary oxygen and blood requirement for those muscles so their claws are out 100% of the time. They are like a hypercar in the sense of the extreme weight savings to maximize speed.

It comes at the cost of cheetahs having to avoids physical altercations because they are at a much higher risk of injury. It’s why cheetah have their kills stolen by other big cats and hyenas at a much higher rate than the other cats, because they can’t risk injury over a single kill and die from it. A lion can break an arm and still live because the pride will feed them. A leopard can tear a ligament and because it’s stalking allows it to cover the distance with minimal physical drain except the moment of attack. But a cheetah with either of those injuries is automatic death because they can’t run. Something as simple as a sprain will cause a cheetah to starve if it doesn’t heal quickly enough. So they avoid conflict and don’t defend kills to avoid injuries. This is why they have a more mild temperament when domesticated comparatively.

Paring what you said with this. Interesting stuff. So they genetically dumped all their stats into speed and lost the structure to battle/defend themselves since said speed is their way of avoiding/surviving. Glass Canon type shyt.
