I think Cavs' reasoning with getting Lonzo, is that there is not a drop off of defensive talent by letting Okoro go, but there's a big upside of getting a legit point guard, who can pass, play-make, etc.

Good for the Cavs if Lonzo can stay healthy. Okoro who I like was a zero on offense, and another team will likely pay Jerome so Lonzo can also add secondary playmaking to help with that.

By winning the DPOY Evan Mobley contract went from $224 Million to $269 million a $9 Million Bump per year, they also got Hunter from Atlanta who’s making $23 million to come off the bench. That eliminates any chance they had to sign Jerome for what he is looking to get.
