Those residents, and most Black people would welcome sincere Federal response to crime and violence rates.
But Trump is trying to distract and appease his base with this shyt, and everybody sees it for what it is. He gets to have cameras showing Black people being arrested, and undermines Black mayors.

That’s the problem black people have with this. It’s not to stop crime, because if it was, sending a bunch of national guards for a week or two does very little. It’s just to show an empty block for a photo op and a single headline of something like “no murders in a week.” As soon as the national guards leave, life goes back to what it was and no tangible progress was made. If he was serious about crime, he’d implement real long term solutions, not bringing in guards who are not trained to police to push around and arrest black people for a week or two.
