A 17-year-old in Chicago recently pulled off an ill-famed feat that has made headlines around the city for all the wrong reasons. He somehow managed to commit nine armed vehicular hijackings in one day (August 20th) while also evading law enforcement, which bumped his total in auto theft crimes up to 11 (on record) during the month of August. The teenager reportedly carried out the majority of his offenses on the South Side of Chicago. There is no word on what exactly prompted his highly publicized streak of criminal acts, in such a condensed amount of time, all in the same area. But, it lasted nearly two weeks, from August 18th to August 30th. His victims ranged from 21 to 65 years old; eight of them were women.
This criminal operation became such a nuisance around town that the Chicago Police Department eventually assigned their special carjacking task force to track down the suspect; he was finally apprehended on Tuesday near the 6500 block of Rockwell. Shortly after being taken into custody, he was charged with two counts of criminal damage to government property and 11 counts of armed vehicular hijacking.
According to reports, the CPD is currently investigating whether or not the suspect''s actions were solo or a part of an organized group effort.
