Relatives last saw Luis Leon, who lives in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on June 20, when he and his wife visited the Philadelphia immigration office to replace his lost green card, The Morning Call first reported.

There, officers handcuffed him and took him away without explanation, relatives told the outlet. His family was left scrambling, contacting immigration offices, hospitals and even a morgue for more information on Leon’s whereabouts.

Then, on July 9, Leon’s wife received a call that seemed to confirm the family’s worst fears; the caller claimed the 82-year-old had died.

Thankfully, this week, his family members learned that Leon had been moved from a detention facility in Minnesota to Guatemala. He’s now in a hospital in Guatemala City, the outlet reported. The Independent has reached out to ICE for more information.

Leon was granted political asylum in 1987 after surviving Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet’s regime, the outlet reported. He has a clean record — and hasn’t even been given so much as a parking ticket, the family claimed.

He’s not alone, figures from the data distribution organization Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse show. As of this week, there are more than 56,800 people in ICE detention; 72 percent of them have no criminal convictions.

The Truth
This was never even going to be done competently and humanely regardless because it’s Trump.

Everything in this guys history showed this.

I get that people eventually forget or stop caring here, because their communities they create basically make it plug n play for them to come and get set up here, but 20 years is a crazy ass long time to not get that kind of problem solved.

Have you been watching the news at all lol

Who the fukk called and said he died, though?
Yes I have and 8 times of 10 these articles leave out a crucial detail for some dumb reason

Take this guy
I had to read 3-4 articles before finding this one

Dude has a green card but also had a final removal order issued in 2007
Now, since they allowed him to stay and granted him permanent residency, they're not supposed to fukk with him
But first few articles didn't even mention that

How do people go so long without getting their citizenship??
Some are just cool with permanent residency
Some countries don't allow dual citizenships
Some other bullshyt hurdles

Some immigrants get Green Cards(via lottery or family) and can't speak a lick of English

Etc

This is gonna be a developing news story

Took him and didn't tell the family anything. An immigration lawyer calls to say they can fight the case. Same lawyer called this man family to tell them he was dead

Then a week later they found out he was alive in Guatamala.

His family is planning on flying down to visit him.

They not gonna let the family back in the country
