The Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has shut down Haufei Restaurant & Mall in Victoria Island, Lagos.
In a tweet on Saturday, the consumer protection agency says it closed the Chinese restaurant over complaints that it declines services to Nigerians.
"Today, FCCPC closed Haufei Restaurant & Mall 33 Aboyade Cole, VI based on credible intel & surveillance that the biz declines service to Nigerians. Staff of the biz admitted this is the policy & our operatives experienced same. Both now closed for further regulatory action," the agency wrote.
A Nigerian lady had taken to social media to call out the the Chinese restaurant over discrimination of blacks.
In a video, the lady claimed the restaurant had sent her and her friends out because they were blacks.
She stated that the waitress who her friend spoke only Madarin, explained that the management of the restaurant had given an order that they shouldn’t serve anyone who is not Chinese.
"I don’t understand how this is even possible. It is a recent policy made by the proprietor and the Chef (who only spoke Mandarin) could not give us a reason why we could not sit and have a meal," she said.
"In Nigeria, you won’t serve non-Chinese customers? Are you mad? But you have Nigerian staff? What f*ckery?!"
