Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s teenage son was robbed Friday night across the street from the family’s home, leaving him with a chipped tooth and fat lip, a source told Sun-Times Michael Sneed.
Zach Emanuel went outside to make a phone call around 10 p.m. when he was jumped in the 4200 block of North Hermitage on the North Side, the source said.

Two people approached the teen and went through his pockets, stealing his cell phone, police said earlier.
As a result of the struggle over the phone, Zach Emanuel got a chipped tooth and a fat lip, the source said Saturday.
No weapon was involved in the incident, the source said.
The suspects fled the scene.
The mayor, who attended slain teen Demario Bailey’s funeral Saturday, is “crestfallen” over his son being the victim of a strong-arm robbery, the source said.
Multiple attempts to reach the mayor’s spokespeople were unsuccessful Saturday.

Earlier this week, the mayor spoke about his teenage son when asked about a trip the family was taking to Chile this holiday.
He mentioned that this trip is particularly poignant.
“This is Zach’s last year before he goes off to college – if I don’t kill him before he goes there. But that’s a side note. That has nothing to do with the vacation. That just deals with having a teenaged boy at home,” the mayor said.
The mayor also made no apologies for choosing vacation with his family over campaigning.
“I will not put ever politically my job ahead of my kids and the opportunity to be a father and the opportunity to have, quote, unquote ‘quality time.’ I don’t ever want to look back as a father and say, ‘Woulda, coulda, shoulda spent more time.’ … We’ve had this tradition a long time. It’s something the whole family looks forward to. We’ll be going away. Then, traditionally, you guys will then attack me for going away with my family when I come back and then, we’ll play that process, too.”
