The Lakers have seen Dwight Howard and Earl Clark both leave in free agency, which means theyre in need of some reliable big man help to fill out their roster for next season.
It appears that veteran seven-footer Chris Kaman may be an option.
From Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports:
As Dwight Howard leaves Los Angeles, the Lakers and free-agent center Chris Kaman have a growing mutual interest, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Kaman played his first eight NBA seasons for the Los Angeles Clippers, and a return to Southern California to join the Lakers has strong appeal to him, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.
Kaman is more than serviceable at his position, especially in a backup role. But his health has been anything but a constant over the last few seasons, so durability would be the concern.
Still, the Lakers dont have a ton of options, and Kaman when healthy might be near the top of that list. The only big men currently on the roster in Los Angeles beyond Pau Gasol are Jordan Hill, Robert Sacre, and rookie Ryan Hill.
Again, not a lot of options.
Kaman averaged 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 20.7 minutes per game for Dallas last season.
