The Vikings had said Kluwe's advocacy for causes would not weigh into their decision.

Kluwe, 31, averaged 45.0 yards and a career-best 39.7 net yards per punt last season. The 45.0 ranked 24th in the NFL (22nd among those with at least 55 punts), and the 39.7 ranked 18th in the NFL (17th among those with at least 55 punts).

He was due to make $1.45 million in 2013, the final year of his contract.
