Reading or some YouTube links prolly be best

First and foremost you have to start with the Qur'an. There is no Islam without the Qur'an. It's the basis of everything

Al-Qur'an al-Kareem - القرآن الكريم
You don't necessarily have to read the whole book (but I would really recommend it). I would say that it's best that you form your own ideas and perceptions first and foremost before the eventual sectarian's attempt to pull you to whatever side they stand on.

This is a fairly long video, but it's a great documentary. It offers more than just a typical religious sermon and showcases the historical foundation of Islam. Understanding the historical foundation of Islam is imperative to understanding the religion and why Tawhid is so important.

Brehs, never neglect your hearts and always stay connected to Allah swt. At the end of the day, the deen is about guiding you through life and preparing you for the day that you'll stand in front of Allah and answer for your deeds. You'll die alone brehs, never forget that. Even in your lowest moments, continue to repent. Even if you feel like the worst hypocrite, just keep repenting. Think positively of Allah.

I just found out that a dude I knew from back in the day who used to be heavy on deen has just left the deen altogether and became a flaming fakkit. Not only that, but he has become extremely right wing and islamophobic.

I've seen something like this happen many times before and they all had the same traits:

1) They were constantly seeking controversial topics, and did not put their personal relationship with God first.

2) they forgot that guidance comes from God and relied on themselves for guidance.

3) they hopped from one extreme to another. One day they're extreme salafists, the next day they are Sufi, and then they become ikhwani etc. This indicates a lack of sincerity and humility with God. It also indicates that one is more interested in controversy and spectacle than Truth. They treated their Deen like a piece of gum: whenever the flavor began to fade, they spit it out and chewed a new one.

Mostly the people I met in that clique are Sunni in 2017. It's so strange too, but I hear that the movement is getting stronger and more Sunni as time progresses.

Yeah it's Farrakhan and his boys who are standing in the way of that.
