clearing bad ESN

Im looking on craigslist and I see some cheap bad esn phones (nexus 5 for $50 tmobile!)

I have tmobile myself. any way to clear a bad esn phone? or are they just useless?

ESPN is on channel 36 i believe. they should have a iphone app and android idk though never used it.

This is no longer the case with tmobile and ATT. Once a phone has a balance, they blacklist it and it's useless
