In this era of home recording and self-releases, WHY would an artist need to go through a label just to give them 30-40% of something they can just upload themselves?

Sample clearances are probably the biggest one

Touring and promo. If you listen to artists like Little Brother talk about how touring is set up as independent artists versus major label artists you’ll see how much of a grind and hassle it is doing it by yourself

Dudes forget how gassed every Pusha verse was in The Re-Up Gang days and everyone begging for a solo. Then he went solo and suddenly Malice is better :dahell:I love The Clipse but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't always most looking forward to Pusha's verses. Either way, I'm here for the album.

I don't doubt some really fukked with the underlying introspective tone of Malice's verses, but some mfs def got in their contrarian for the sake of being contrarian bag after Malice found the Lord.

That and marketing are the big ones. The included marketing can push a popular song into becoming a hit record which then can lead to it being picked up in commercials and movies where a lot of backend money is made.

I’m on record as saying I always found the Clipse slightly overrated, especially Hell Hath No Fury. People were acting like that album was the second coming of Reasonable Doubt and it was just ok to me.

But Pusha solo really made me a fan. Starting with the Fear Of God Mixtape. My Name Is My Name was straight heat and Daytona was incredible. Its Almost Dry was excellent and I Pray For You got me excited for a Clipse reunion.
