Yeah, in San Diego, and I am in that range, I have no interest in buying a house, (if money were no object, than I would buy many), no children, no wife, no dependents, I may want to buy a condo at some point, even those are going to be about 500, for where I live.

For 400k-650k for a house, you are usually way out in the suburbs, or slums, it's just not the life I want or need to live. A friend of mine from my old neighborhood, did buy a place there for about 400, but he lived at his parents house for 15 years, prior, with three children. My generation graduated in 2004 and college in 2008, hardly any of us own property, that weren't already affluent from familial assets.
