Soooooo is it even worth it, pursuing a tech/coding career as a novice/beginner anymore or nah???
And what field/concentration???
I was studying for months but took a break and am still on it because I don’t wanna waste my time
This whole AI thing is becoming exhausting already

If someone can break in and be ok with the constant grind, then it’s worth it. Problem is that it’s harder to do than ever.
Not only because of A.I but because of overall competition. The smartest people around the world have all moved into Computer Science. That would be Physicist, Mathematician, Engineer or Doctor are now in Computer Science programs and chasing the bag. From around the world.
I really don’t know what field is immune from competition at this point, but Tech brought all the dogs to it so if you can handle the competition knowing what you’re up against, then proceed. It’s more worth it than ever to be in tech. I got that thread on here where Meta Engineers are getting $100 million to $300 million signing bonuses and $10 million salaries. Interns are making $230K.
The main issue is breaking in is crazy competition. The floor has been exponentially raised. People are also willing to do the job cheaper. It’s nowhere, nearly anywhere close to as easy as it was in the 2010’s to break in so it isn’t the same cakewalk.
I’ll also say a degree with UW will get lost in the shuffle in today’s hiring climate. Someone will have to do a lot more to standout. Entry level jobs get 1000’s of resumes from people that come from average to good schools like UW.
Not only is it really tough to break in, it’s nearly equally as tough to land a role even with years of experience. I’ve come to accept that this is the new reality and why I’m looking to leverage my experience into something less competitive but stable.
I think if you’re the type to look for excuses to quit, you’ll waste a lot of time grinding all to give up. If you got that type of personality (you got to be honest with yourself) then I think time can be better spent putting that effort elsewhere, like a trade. Computer Science used to be seen as the field where you can put in less effort compared to Physics, Math, Engineering, Medicine, etc. and get a good paying career. Now it’s seen as the highest floor overall next to Medical School if someone wants the really good entry level jobs.
