"A servant should concern himself with your affairs and not his own affairs; your wealth and not his own. In that same vein a wise prince must make sure his servant is comfortable, compliment him, treat him well and make sure the servant despises change."

I was reading the Prince again, and this statement just hit me so much I had to put the book down for a few minutes to ponder over it. I think it fits the state of mind of Black people today in this country.

There are more gems throughout the book in dealing with a conquered people that I believe fit our state in this country (White society in general).

What do you think?

I don’t personally feel like it represents Black Americans.

As we have never and will never “compliment” White Supremacy as a whole nor do we “despise change.”

I feel like we genuinely fight for change daily. Sure, it’s not in unison but individually and in pockets of our community.

Some of us continue to chase after change when drive, faith and determination outweighs support, funds/collateral. — and the many barriers against us.

We are definitely not under the impression we are “treated well.”

I don't think it's so much as being averse to change but being content with complacency. I have some family who have been complacent with doing the same shyt for the past 10, 15 years or longer. I visit them several years apart and ain't shyt done changed.

I think it's the complacency that implicitly complements white supremacy. The lack of inner drive to get out of a rut when you clearly have the means and ability. Instead they cavort with the same ain't shyt ass people. Out of 7 of my siblings and cousins only 3 of us made it through college and of us only 2 have lofty aspirations. We're the only ones of any real challenge to white supremacy because we're educated black men with legitimate potential.

While I think all black people should get some sort of higher education I know it's not everyone cup of tea. If it's not then the onus is on that individual to improve their station in life so that they don't stagnate or fall backwards. If you don't you're an unwilling pawn of white supremacy to be sacrificed at their discretion.

But Black people aren't treated well or complimented or comfortable...

U.S. Satisfaction Higher Among Blacks, Hispanics Than Whites

That poll was taken after the shootings of 2016 as well. I wonder how high it would have been if those shootings didn't occur?

"Overall, how satisfied are you with your life -- are you very satisfied, somewhat satisfied, somewhat dissatisfied or very dissatisfied?"

Under, "Very/ somewhat satisfied" Black people polled to be 88% satisfaction.

Black people are politically uneducated.

nikkas don't even know what net worth is or how wealth is measured or what the poverty line is or how elections work or what a liberal is or what a conservative is.

Black people's perceived life satisfaction is from ignorance and a political culture that believes things will get better...eventually...one day...just gotta keep on going...

Also...Americans are optimists, Americans perceive themselves as happy despite having the mental health of Pakistan...

https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/2016-09-14/the-10-most-depressed-countries

The U.S. is one of the most depressed countries in the world, according to the World Health Organization.

In terms of quality years of life lost due to disability or death – a widely adopted public health metric that measures the overall burden of disease – the U.S. ranked third for unipolar depressive disorders, just after India and China.

The Dark Side of American Optimism
One of the hallmarks of America’s supposed exceptionalism is its citizens’ extraordinary optimism. A 2014 study found that Americans were more likely to describe their day as "particularly good" than any rich European country. Nothing reflects this sunniness like the enduring parable of the American Dream, the idea that, only in America, even the poorest can transform their fortunes through hard work.

Black people's mental health tells a different story than survey...
Black youth suicide rates tell a different story than a survey...

Black, young and suicidal: An epidemic we must continue to bring to light - theGrio
According to the CDC, suicide is now the third-leading cause of death for Blacks ages 15-24. Although white people have the highest suicide rates in the country, the numbers around Black boys age 5-11 have doubled over the past 20 years. Researchers using this data have concluded that part of this rise is due to Black children “likely to be exposed to violence and traumatic stress, and that black children are more likely to experience an early onset of puberty, which can increase the risk of depression and impulsive aggression.”

Any survey that talks about Americans and their feelings are skewed by a culture of optimism and nobody got the optimism bug more than Black people...we are largely ignorant of how everybody else that is non-Black in a 1st World Western country live...

And Americans are an ignorant populace...and have been cut off from a wealth of World History due to our geographical location...

The idea that Black people are satisfied or the average American is satisfied is false...

Do we uphold Black products or White products? Every time I turn on the radio or television I see Black faces endorsing White products, whether those products are clothing or alcoholic beverages. We are the basically doing the branding for major White companies and getting nothing in return.

The data shows that African-Americans are significantly more attached than Caucasians to the following consumer brands and services: Lexus, General Motors, Google, Fidelity, Slim Fast, UPS, Tide, Pampers, Jell-O, Doritos, Dawn, Oreos, Ragu, Campbell Soups, Yoplait, Dentyne, Charmin, Bounty, Betty Crocker, Walmart, the Gap, Lowe's, Macy's and Levi's.

"Clearly, the African-American consumer is more passionate about brands than the Caucasian consumer," said Gary Reisman, co-founder of NewMediaMetrics. "We also see stronger attachment to media properties, so if marketers cross reference the brand data to the media data, they'll make more effective use of their media spends in reaching both consumer segments."

Read the rest here (very interesting data): African-Americans Show More 'Love' to Brands Than Caucasians

I don't disagree with you on this part. But it would seem that we are deluded into feeling satisfied when we really aren't or shouldn't be. That doesn't take away from the quote. The behavior suggests we are satisfied.
