In order to file exempt, I think you have to be able to prove you reasonably believe you won't have any tax liability.
Otherwise if you end up owing, they can get you for a fraudulent claim![]()
IT'S REALLY UP TO YOUR EMPLOYER. IF THEY PROCESS THE PAPERWORK YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH IT UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR. MOST EMPLOYERS WILL MAKE IT SO YOU CAN ONLY CHANGE YOUR FILING STATUS ONCE EVERY 6 MONTHS OR SO. THAT WAY IF YOU CHANGE FOR 1 BIG CHECK YOU END UP fukkIN YOURSELF OVER IN THE LONG RUN.
An employee may claim exempt if he/she had a right to a refund of all income tax
withheld in the previous year because he/she had no tax liability AND he/she
expects a refund of all income tax withheld this year because he/she expects no
tax liability.

I have had them come back and snatch most of my check before but I didn't understand. I always pay every April, this world is just a huge rip sometimes. They can come and get you for a fraudulent claim because you don't want to let them borrow your money?
Yeah, I fukked up big time and it's my fault. But it's cool. I've said it before but I hate that now that I know what to do I can't do it because I owe the IRS. You know you supposed to learn from your mistakes. Well, I learned and it's going to take a couple of years before I can really do something about it.Excuse my dumb but I don't get it... Do you already owe them or something?
