The AK and AR would put them down but any missed shot can hit your neighbors, you're probably most accurate with a pistol but eh. I think the shotty is the perfect one for the job. Unless you live in a big house with long hallways.

18 in shotgun is perfect home defense with the right shell that will kill another human but not fly through walls and hit someone sleeping in another room or hiding in a closet.

Got a shotty next to the bed, and a pistol in the next room over. I'd rather use my ar pistol, but it's locked up.

Pistols are the least accurate. Rifles and shotguns benefit from longer barrels which make them easier to "point". Shotguns also have a bigger spread, while rifles can take more advanced optics such as reflex sights. I will admit that I've had to break out my shotgun on a couple occasions, and in a small house they are a bit of a PITA to navigate with.

what type of shotgun do you have? If you have a hunting shotgun for turkeys and waterfowl with a 28 inch barrel, then yeah your going to have some trouble going down the hallway.

I got an 18, but my house is super small @920sq ft

Aight. An 18' in a small house should be easy to navigate with, my only concern would be what youd shoot out of it because chances are one wall is directly into an bedroom or place where someone (family might be). Traveling with within your house would be easy easy too. You carry the gun muzzle facing downward and bring up to shoot. My only concern is how big are the rooms cause if someone made there way into your house and entered your bedroom, with your square footage its quite possible they will be on the receiving end of a very close up shot, which can be bad for you as the shooter
