i just got a phone call that im speaking on a panel for my college..:bigone: and its tonight at 6.. the even was supposed to be held in the fall but they was with the shyts and its tonight:usure:

i already have gathered some of my own thoughts but some of you guys are pretty educated/opinionated so if you could help out that'd be greatly appreciated

• Recently, many states have chosen to legalize marijuana. Should the nationwide prohibition of cannabis end, how would that affect the economy and the African American community?

• Abortion has been a topic of conversation for quite some time. Considering this statement, how big of an issue is abortion within the African American Community?
• How healthy are African Americans and what can they do to become healthier?

• Can African Americans afford to be healthy?

•Many young people have stated that they’ve “tried college, and it just wasn’t for them”. Those young adults move on and take up vocational training and make up the American workplace. Understanding this, what could African Americans who choose not to go to college do to be successful in America?

•Based on American society, what jobs are best suited for African Americans?

• What defines an American and what defines an African American?

• Do blacks claim African American because they want differentiation or because they want to create or strengthen ties with Africa?

you dont have to answer all but it'd be cool to hear some of yalls opinions:pachaha::pachaha::pachaha:

The "BUCKEYE" Nation
1. Cannabis being legilazied would increase the states coffers from taxes. You would also have to subtract unintended health affects from smoking cannabis, for instance second hand smoke, or unknown ailments, and unintended consquences, which may outweigh the benefit of legilazing it. It would have little effect on the black community. Legilizing cannabis would not prevent those who are inclined to smoke, to smoke less.
2. Abortion is not a big topic in the black community, because unlike the white community, black women tend not to share their abortion stories. Nevertheless, it does affect the black community, since a large portion of women who have abortions are black, which decreases the black population inside the U.S. In general, most women who have abortions are low educated, and single. If they were to carry through their labor, its more than likely the child would be born in poverty.
3. African Americans lead the country in I believe obesisty, heart ailments, pulmonary events. Part of this stems from a lack of fresh foods, or grocer stores within the communities.
4. They can, if they realize how much shorter their lifespans will be if they don’t eat healthy.
5. Join the military.
6. African Americans have shown that they can exceed at any vocation that is available to them, as such they should be suited for any job where they meet the requirements for.
8. Claiming African American is a rejection of racialized terms such as negro, and colored. It is no different from people of Italian descent who preferred to be called Italian, or people of Irish descent who prefer to be called Irish, or who use a hypen along with American. Being a miniority tends to focus ones thinking inward, and forces them to define themselves as the other.
