Interesting video. I had no idea tuition were subsidizing athletics as much, and its terrible since schools are laying off faculty members and paying adjunct professors under $20,000 a year.

I know most of you meatheads dont care, but this is bad.

I knew some funds were going to athletics it tells you in your tuition receipts or at least I think I remember it telling me but I didn't think it was as high as a percentage as some of those numbers.

The money the academic department pays to the athletic department is a loan and has to be paid back.

Yea the payoff definitely isn't there. It might not have been as high at bama cause the athletic dept made so much.
But in general one day the country is going to have to come to terms with the price of college and rising student loan debt. It'll all come to a head in the Great Revolt of 2021

Athletics add to student life, so students should be helping to shoulder that cost. It's not the %'s of athletic budgets financed by students that bothers me, it's the size of the budget.

It's spiraled out of control as non-profitable colleges (the overwhelming majority) try to keep up with the big programs. It's like the 53rd man on the roster trying to party and vacation and live the lifestyle of the superstars. Then, to make matters worse, the big programs compete with each other so they may not end up being profitable either as they pour more money into the program to keep pace with each other.

More oversight and transparency is definitely needed.

College is a mess itself not including sports. Its why we have so many adjunct professors. Mediocre coach will only come to your school if he making the max salary a state employee can earn.

Exactly. Most of these schools need to have more sports they select be club sports instead of big $$$ sports. Schools out here with a 1 person golf team or a school in Texas with a hockey team smh
