Well, I've never heard it always seen it regarded as one of the best songs on the album. This song had the editors of The Source falling off their chairs when they heard it, people were praising this song on the first Internet forums in 1994, shyt was on VH1's list at 48 for greatest hip hop songs of All-Time.
There's nothing wrong with the beat, beat sounds fresh to this day.

Godawful One Love track are you kidding?
That's a tremendous storytelling track and concept song the third verse is a blackout.
That's arguably the best song on the album, and when the album dropped it was one of the most praised songs by critics. The xylophone is ill I have never heard anyone say that song sucks.
@ Best song on the album. Because critics are totally supposed to sway my opinion, right? 
I have, and always will, found that beat annoying as phuck. Not my cup of tea. Sue me.
Edit : I also said it's a great story-telling track,I just don't like the beat, THAT'S IT.
I think a lot of people would disagree. We're quite hardcore Hip Hop heads compared to a lot of people, to a lot of people the song sounds dated. Like I said, my personal opinion is I fukk with the song, but the youths and others I don't think would be too enamoured with the beat. It Ain't Hard To Tell and Memory Lane I often see people say is their favourite 1.

To me personally, Halftime and Lifes a bytch have always been my favorite tracks. One Love is a great story telling track, I'm not taking anything from it, that beat just sounds dated as fukk. That's all.
