Comcast abandons 250GB data caps, will trial tiered plans starting at 300GB | The Verge

Comcast just announced that it's getting rid of its controversial 250GB data cap on home internet connections in favor of what it calls a "more flexible data usage management approach." That basically means that the company will eventually switch to a tiered plan arrangement with overage fees just like wireless providers, with the base plan starting at 300GB per month.

I don't even know how to check how much bandwidth I've used with Comcast. My shyt still workin' so...

I've never been aware if my provider (Cox) has any caps. But I never got into the habit of downloading like some fukking fiend either. The highest I may have dl-ed in any 1 month period was maybe 30 gigs at the most and that's on very rare occasions. Most months, I barely dl over 2-5 gigs, if that high. Not too much shyt out there I feel the need to own thru dl that takes up a lot of space and the few that I do, I usually outright buy (like blu ray movies or games). I stream shyt at a moderate level, which I reckon would be the most of my bandwidth usage.

If this tiered data shyt becomes standard on broadband, i'm gonna be heated. :sadbron:

Right now with optimum, they don't care how much I download. I went though like a TB in one month and they didn't say shyt. :takedat:

question - if you have a home network and you stream shyt off your network, wouldn't that count towards the monthly cap?

You mean accessing your videos and shyt when you're outside of your network? If so, that counts as uploading, not downloading.

nah... your local/home network is free unless you're accessing your stuff from outside of the network over the internet. In that case its uploading like CTech83 said

you can check through your comcast.net email.

I never got an email from them.

I went on the website and tried to get one and it was like call in or some shyt and I was lazy and just closed the tab.

It's not that serious. I'll peep my router settings and see what I can find on there.

In reality though, I don't see why all these fukk ass companies need to put caps on any of this shyt (well, actually I do see, as it's Capitalism and Greed). Unlimited should be the only rate period and only speed limits should be set in place. I don't recall landline phones having "minute" plans outside of long-distance and even then, there was packages to get that stored in rather than by-the-minute, yet cell phones wanna govern ya shyt. U.S. rates for innnanet rates in the US are already fukking us over enough ass is compared to the rest of the world and yet they wanna double dip on us with even more fukk ass prices with outrageous net fees on the mobile devices as well. Mothafukka-merica.
