i replaced the mountain bike tires on my GTX Avalanche 3.0 with
Cheng Shin C1096 Semi-Slick XC Bicycle Tires. got it off Amazon for a song.

they are hybrid slick tires. totally smooth in the center with knobs on the side that never contact the road unless
you make a real tight turn and your bike is leaning over at a 35 degree angle. much less road resistance and you can't beat the price.
i've had mine on for more than a year now and love em.

here is my bike minus the shocks because they waist energy that you put into peddling:

mine also has a different graphics on the frame.
i put a better seat on in, an odometer and mounted a gps on the handle bar for when i'm in new places.

Could I put those type of tires on a the road bike I just copped? I am afraid I am going to beat the fukk out my tires... I want to be able to transition from dirt to road with no problem.

i do it all the time. they are just as wide as mountain bike tires and have as much surface area on the road.
it's really the best of both worlds. i get better speed on roads and have not had a problem off road and they
will take a beating better than the tires you have now.

I'll snap a pic of my bike when I get in. No bullshyt though, I want to do a night ride around Brooklyn some time soon. I need a new cushion for my seat or something because my back has been hurting lately. I've only been really biking for about 4 months really .

If anyone wants to go on a ride or knows of a good route, I'm in.

there are so many places to bike in BK.

the path on Ocean ave goes from the end of the Prospect expressway all the way to Coney Island.
go to the end of Flatbush near the mall and keep on going over the Bridge to Jacob Riis Park and the beach and Fort Tilden.
or before you cross the bridge, Floyd Bennett Field is a huge old Air Field that you can bike around for hours, there are even woods with trails there.
Bedford ave goes from Sheepshead bay (right near Manhattan Beach) all the way up to who knows where, the farthest i've taken that is Flatbush.
Brooklyn Bridge Park is amazing to bike.
i also like the path that goes under the Verrazano Bridge.

do a google search for Brooklyn or NYC bike path maps...there are tons of places to ride around.
