Expect to hear more mainstream news on it when more data is in..supposedly they havent tracked the comet very long so they still are adjusting calculation..but most all calculations are pointing to direct impact with mars or a slight miss.

You nikkas tripping. You know the kind of energy it takes to obliterate a planet? Mars will be fine. It has probably been through as much before in its history. This is scary though. The sheer hopelessness of something like this happening here on Earth. I pray it never happens in my lifetime. And my kids will live in a world where we are technologically much more prepared for it.

Due to uncertainties in the observations — the comet has only been observed for 74 days (so far), so it’s difficult for astronomers to forecast the comet’s precise location in 20 months time — comet C/2013 A1 may fly past at a very safe distance of 0.008 AU (650,000 miles). But to the other extreme, its orbital pass could put Mars directly in its path. At time of Mars close approach (or impact), the comet will be barreling along at a breakneck speed of 35 miles per second (126,000 miles per hour).
