North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
If they did then the key to interstellar travel would've been figured out by now.

If intelligent life reached this planet then they would've had the tech to do it and we should've been able to study and reverse engineer it by now. Yet we are no closer to in than the 1816 let alone 2016.

And for all of the light from stars that traveled billions of miles and millions of years, no radio signals from other life forms have reached our equipment. We are either alone in the universe or probably the most advanced. The only advanced organisms in the universe that evolved the most.

Common sense proves you dont understand how big the universe actually is
To try imagining how big, place a penny down in front of you. If our sun were the size of that penny, the nearest star, Alpha Centauri, would be 350 miles away. Depending on where you live, that’s very likely in the next state (or possibly country) over.

Attempting to imagine distances larger than this quickly becomes troublesome. At this scale, the Milky Way galaxy would be 7.5 million miles across, or more than 30 times the distance between the Earth and the moon. As you can see, these are rather inhuman dimensions that are almost impossible to really get a sense of.

But that doesn’t mean it’s completely impossible. Astronomers have made observations and simulations that in some way capture the enormity of our cosmos. In this gallery, Wired will look at the size and scale of the universe’s largest, farthest, and most mysterious objects.

Assuming for a moment that there are indeed intelligent space-faring life forms out there, the chances that they would holla at our planet would be so slim. Granted, we have radio signals blowing up space but still.. for them to receive them, pinpoint the location and then actually travel here would take an insane amount of time, far beyond any of our lifetimes.

Due to there being trillions of galaxies out there I'm betting there HAS to be intelligent life out there. Maybe smarter, maybe dumber.
Or maybe there isn't. Maybe we are literally the only planet with life. Either answer is astounding.

But for now, we are alone.

Common sense proves how old the universe is and how civilizations may be millions of years more advance then us Terra forms. Smh this nonsense. You know how young this solar system is compared to our neighbors.

We can't even get along with other humans and you expect the govt to allow communication between our ratchet human assess and an advanced life form?

Reverse engineering

:dead:

What makes you think we'd even have the materials, money, manpower or know-how to reverse engineer such complex technology?

:heh:

Hundreds of billions of stars in a galaxy, hundred billion plus galaxes... and we're alone

:youngsabo:

I can't even get my Sprint service to stop dropping calls when I step outside and we're suddenly going to reverse engineer technology to travel to other solar systems or galaxies?

I agree with OP.

Y'all are assuming that someone cracked the warp speed barrier. I say that it is impossible to propogate matter through the cosmos at any significant fraction of the speed of light, let alone faster than C.

Whether other life forms exist is pretty much irrelevant. They would be stuck on their "island" just like we are. I can't pick up a radio station that's 100 miles away but aliens are supposed to pick up our signals LIGHT YEARS away.

I like to think we are the first. Maybe one day we'll get bored enough to send a space ark out on a million year mission to the next solar system.

All in all I'm not sure either way. And that's all anyone who is being honest can say. Although my math suggests that we are alone for now.

An advanced civilization of Earthlings that came and went sounds more feasible to me.

this doesn't make any sense. If they did visit the planet why would you assume that we'd have had access to their technology in order to reverse engineer it? :comeon: a super advanced type 2 or 3 civilization may very well have figured out how to use so called "wormholes" which would make the speed of light irrelevant. So they could have come from a place too far away for radio signals to have reached us. I'm not saying that we have been visited by ET's but your reasoning as to whi we weren't is dumb.
