Where is the diversity at? How come 97' looks more diverse than 2014?

cant really compare

back in 1997 whatever was played on the radio or on music videos is what you knew

now in 2014 total opposite, barely anyone listens to the radio or watches music videos on tv, vevo, youtube, streaming is in, companies can't control what's popular like they used to.

Do you think that that 2013/2014 artist reflects what the youth today likes? Would the youth today rather see an industry dominate by white faces or is it the industry/ Payola pushing these acts on public or both or neither?

probably who knows though :manny:, i mean in 1997, i remember being like 12-13, and listening to the radio at home, whatever the rado would play id record on a cassette player and bump over and over again. I'd watch bet/mtv/much music, whatever songs/artists were playing thats all i knew. if i saved enough money i'd go to hmv and whatever was there or popular id buy.

Now i'm not dictated anymore, when i go in my car i take out my phone and i either bump a downloaded mixtape, a podcast, or stream from songza, or internet radio stations (tune in). Mostly all money a artist makes now comes from touring, even big name artists sell like 100-200k now thats jsut the way the industry is now. Sales and single sales aren't indicative of popularity anymore

Take note that most of the top billboard songs in 2013/ 2014 all have at least 10 million youtube views or greater.

That R&B is dead.

Blackstreet, EnVogue, R.Kelly, Usher, Monica, Toni Braxton, Keith Sweat all on the charts in 1997.

Today that is damn near non-existent.
Sad to see R&B in the state that it's in. Only New R&B artist that I like are Mayer Hawthorne and Jessie Ware and they are white. :snoop:

It's depressing to see that 1997 chart is more diverse in race, genres, and age. It's like the music climate of the country is moving backwards.
But then again this might not be a true representation of the what's Hot and if it's not than this could mean All races, genres and ages are not being represented. :usure:

Traditionally black genres (RnB, hip hop) are being represented, just not by black people. That is a major problem to me.
