compton (outside of a few cool beat switches, the mixin' and production on just a couple of the songs) as a whole project was horrible to me. i never thought dre would release an album worse than that aftermath compilation from back in 96' :skip:

the midnight life won't nothin' to write about either. it's the 1st quik album where i only liked enough songs to count on 1 hand :mjcry:

i guess if i had to pick the better album between the 2, i'd say the midnight life because compton was just awful to me and threw me off completely so it's almost like the midnight life wins by default but in the grand scheme of things, the midnight life ain't nothin' special and by far quik's worst release to date:bryan:

i say all this to say, which album do you think is better? :patrice:

Midnight Life was a dope album. I enjoyed it front to back. Quik doesnt disappoint.

Compton is a listenable record. Sonically its cool. My real gripe with it is you cant really tell when Dre is even rapping. It doesnt sound like a Dre record at all and he just sounds like he's rapping everybody else's bonus verse on the tracks. He didnt stay true to his self at all on this album and it makes me rate it lower, even as solid as it is sonically.

I have to go with Compton, bro. There's so much going on with that album that I'll catch something different everytime, especially if I plug it into my Sonos. Plus, at the end of the day, a Dre album is a Dre album, and this will change the game. I mean, look at Game's Documentary 2.5 which kinda follows the Compton template. Everyone loves that album.

I LOVE DJ Quik's music, but something about The Midnight Life doesn't sit right with me. Ultimately, it just sounds cheap, as in a completely independant release which he personally had to put money into to get made. This album ranks probably at the bottom of his discography, just below Under Tha Influence and Trauma but both of those records were around the time Quik was going through some shyt.
