People are naive and M.A.D.

Mutually Assured Destruction (M.A.D.) was the agreed conclusion between the U.S. and Soviet Union if they decided to let Dem Thangs aka Nooks fly. So because both sides realized everybody was going get smoked and civilization was going to be obliterated as we currently know it, they established the concept of M.A.D.

So they decided let's have an arms agreement where we can reduce the number of Nooks over time. Cool.
