I don't see why they have college sports. Just build pro teams for youngsters starting at 15 like in Europe.

There was either a 30-30 or Outside the Lines investigation where they showed some kids who play college sports were actually graduating (with bullshyt degrees, of course) and still couldn't even read on a fifth grade level. There was a lady in there who said that those degrees and those admissions, even , are devaluing the diplomas/degrees at some of those universities.
I guess you could make that argument. :manny:

Personally it's just always been funny to me how these world-renowned Universities who are known for their academic researches and accomplishments workdwide are often only known for their athletic achievements within the United States. Like Stanford is a top 3 Medical School in the whole wide world but you mentioned Stanford University to anybody here and the first (and probably only) thing they think of our John Elway and Andrew Luck

The difference between US and other countries is that these sports (basketball and football) gained their popularity at a college level before there were big time professional leagues.

So the institution of college b-ball and football was too large by the time the professional leagues became popular. There is so much money and history that is tied to this, that it would be very difficult to transition to a different model.

So it becomes a sham of an education for some athletes, but the alternatives just don't seem viable. There just doesn't seem to be a fix here.

Cause colleges had sports before a NBA was even thought of. There will always be college sports, you guys just need to accept that.
And you're talking to the wrong people if sports is the 1st thing that pops up when Stanford is mentioned.

He probably had his credits already since he was a reclassified senior ...I remember in HS they told me I could have graduated and left school early if I wanted also .. all this says is that he basically went back and walked with his class not that he took some extra classes to get his diploma

This is his right class. He was held back but took extra classes to get his credits. So he could catch back up. This ain't some foreign concept. And more people than just athletes do this

What?
How you go from being held back to skipping senior year going straight to college :dwillhuh:

I learned the hard way when I stayed in Texas that sometimes parents of the athletic children actually hold their kids backs year just for athletics...And the shyt seems to work.
:gucci:"Held back" is used for kids who don't perform well. Bagley forwent his Senior year to play b-ball.

Be a first team All-American in college when you're really a high school senior, brehs. :salute:

And he actually graduated in 2017, a year early, per California high school rules (he transferred from Arizona high schools and had to sit out a year). The class of 2018 is his real classmates if he didn't take extra classes.
