According to an arrest report, Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputies had responded after Canizares called saying she was being held against her will by her boyfriend.
But when deputies arrived, Canizares ran away from them, the report said.
The boyfriend told deputies they had been "having relationship issues for the past few days" and that he found Canizares outside holding a firearm in her hand, the report said.
He said he became in fear for his life and their child's safety, so he went inside, got his daughter from her crib and his firearm from a safe box, and locked himself in a bedroom, the report said.
As he was going inside, he heard a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot, the report said.
A few hours later, Canizares contacted authorities, saying she had shot her gun and wanted to turn herself in, and she was taken into custody, the report said.
Canizares later told investigators the incident began after she found "inappropriate messages" in her boyfriend's phone, the report said.
Her firearm was found with a spent casing inside, the report said.
Canizares was booked into jail on Sunday and bonded out by Monday. Attorney information wasn't available.
Video showed Canizares signing the National Anthem at a swearing-in ceremony for former Police Chief Art Acevedo. Photos also showed her with current Chief Manny Morales.
In a statement, the department said Canizares has been relieved of duty with pay "pending the outcome of an active investigation."
