Better songs and it was the cutting edge album of it's year. It's Tribe's apex. MM kinda veers into Muzak/Lullaby territory beat wise in spots. Just my opinion.

you say MM wasn't as innovative. But what alternative rap albums had slapping beats like MM before MM came out? For Tribe to go the 'grimy' route on MM is really interesting to me.
also, what tracks on MM sound muzak-y to you?

Never heard anyone refer to MM as "grimy". That's a first. I thought it lacked the grit of Low End and was almost too perfect or "well oiled" to quote myself.
The muzak vibe comes from the interludes and the use of electric piano on some joints. This is all nitpicky stuff. MM is a jewel.
it's not grimy, but it's definitely heading that direction compared to their earlier shyt. Tracks like "Midnight" and "8 Million Stories". That bangin, hard shyt. Yeah you could argue that Tribe always had those hard drums on their albums like Footprints and Check The Rhime, but Midnight and 8 Million are darker in comparison
the interludes were annoying.

I hear you. 8 Million Stories was kinda boring to me. I grew to enjoy it. I've actually come to enjoy even the initially wack Love Movement album. I fux with Tribe hard. They're on the verge of toppling Wu as my goat group.

I'm a Wu stan and Cuban Linx is my number 2 album of all-time (Liquid Swords #1)
but....they're both in the same league, both GOAT-contending albums.
Production is fairly equal, two of the best produced ever.
But the lyricism and focus of CL gives it the edge for me. I mean Ghost and Rae are far superior rappers than Phife and Tip, no disrespect. But the dynamic between both duos is something to behold.
#2 and a top 10 album (around #8).
