Could someone explain to me what exactly 'The Industry' is?

It's exactly what it sounds like, the functions that create and sell music and their related services.
e.g. labels, managers, promoters, artists, commercial media, writers, booking agents, publishers, studio owners etc.

Midwest/East Coast/Tx (Now in Canada)
The other side of the door.
The offices w/ the plaques, full of cacs...suburb nikkas that aren't hip hop fans at all.
Places where you hear shyt like: "Rap into your look. You should be more like bow wow"
"Give us more songs, we need to hear more" (to use for somebody else shyt)
and more, much worse shyt.

I love the hate. Enjoy those negs.

"I'm not an industry rapper, I'm a rapper in the industry."
You can be in the music business but not be apart of the industry. It's not simply just the business of music as some have suggested.

I love Dmx but like alot of these self proclaimed Real Street dudes claiming they "IN THE STREETS" and NOT INDUSTRY ...

THEY LYING TO THIER FANS AND THEMSELVES

Once u sign to a MAJOR you lost your sovereignty as an INDY artist and are now INDUSTRIAIZED

Regardless how ANTI ESTALISHMENT or UNIQUE you are...

DMX is a prime example...he was branded by DEF JAM and that is the entity that made the masses acknowledge him

even that SPOKEN WORD LECTURE he gave is courtesy of the industry: HBO (TIME WARNER)

and Its been like that...

PUBLIC ENEMY..BRAND NUBIAN...XCLAN and KRS ONE were INDUSTRY

Thats not taking away from thier art...

but as Chuck D stated thier Major Label SONY/CBS did not feel threatned at all by thier militancy

so that rhetoric is irrelevent

a major label rapper like DMX saying he is NOT industry

is like the drive thru worker at WENDYS saying IM MY OWN BOSS

@The HONORABLE SKJ, what you think of this???

EDIT:
nevermind, i saw your post

:ohlawd: Cormega is one of the few artists who could truly say I AM NOT INDUSTRY. ..

Simply because he PUT HIS MONEY WHERE HIS MOUTH IS

When he seen how DEF JAM was dragging by thier feet with his album THE TESTAMEMT

and his management Chris Lighty and VIOLATOR wasnt fighting for him

He got his released and took what money he had and invested in himself (legal hustle inc) and gave us One of the last greatest albums to come outta the East Coast..simply because he was his own man with full creative freedom ...
