I don't do defeatist losers. The men here are NOT broke. The DC folks have been meeting for over a decade. I KNOW them personally. I have been in their homes. They are doing very well.
I'd really appreciate it if you come to my art show in DC...it would make my day or life

No Homepage, No Social Media, No subscription model(perks/badges), so much potential :mjcry:
My brother: you can't post an x link.. you have to manually change "twitter" (?) to "x" for embedding to work. The site thrives on embedded content, so -unless I'm missing something- if this is what posters have to do each time.. that's not right.

And you're totally right about "No subscription model" - there is no monetization model besides "we run ads".

Sure, we can run ads - but there are several things wrong with that starting with to make serious money through ads, you'd have to have a quite large group of regular users. Considering that the going rate is between $1-$4 for 1,000 ad impressions you can understand that this is not the highest way of monetizing the website.

The -in my opinion- hidden money maker: the loyalty of the users. There are users on here who have been here for +1 decade. There are not many great alternatives to The Coli online. So using that and leveraging that through premium subscriptions ("remove all ads for life"), vanity items, premium smileys and so many other things would very likely beat out using just the "let's have annoying ads all over the place" strategy.

Recognizing users through badges is crucial. Right now being here for over a decade is like being a part of an unofficial club nobody knows you're a member of. People should be able to rep their affiliation both to The Coli and to other users (User Groups like "Lakers Fans") easily because that strengthens a sense of belonging and pride - which is also something that can be monetized.

Ya'll talk about controlling our own media, economic independence and pulling our money.

I talking about making it happen.

But ya'll can't find a direct email and ya'll fold.

:dead:

I better not ever hear ya'll say you are natural leaders again or women won't "let" ya'll lead. Smh
Not finding an email is NOT a reason to stop. I hear you.

Business is simple: this is a platform with potential, key word POTENTIAL, it's not a massive website with 100,000 visitors per day (yet).

Meaning that it may be far more interesting for the current owner to say yes to selling it and getting paid now vs the slow drip money coming in.

I take it the mods are not being paid (?) so besides some low costs (XenForo the forum publisher, maybe server costs?) this can't be an expensive operation.

The top 2 action points imho

1. (External) We have to figure out who owns The Coli and engaging them in a conversation around selling this. I volunteer to be part of this conversation as I've been in a lot of "executive" conversations as part of my career in tech (both in corporate and with startups). Obviously BlackPearl as the starter of this post has to be involved.
2. (Internal) We should put together the group of people who are serious about buying this and have an internal conversation about what both financial contribution and leadership/organization post-purchase would look like.

What do you think BlackPearl The Empress (don't know how to tag you) and others?

Put pen to paper in a business plan and people with money will reach out.
We'll that's the plan. But we need people will to put in the work.

I was literally thinking about this the other day too. Mad props to you for starting this post.

The product for sure has potential, but time has caught up with it and the technical limitations and lack of new features are bad.

Also having 0.0 social media presence in 2025 damn near 2026 whether we like it or not is not the play for platform growth.

My background is both Product leadership and company leadership (learned a lot in corporate, now applying this to startups).

I’m sure I’m not the only one with a background or skill set that could help this take off. With the right ownership and leadership who are aligned, this can be something.

1. Do we have any idea who actually currently owns thecoli.com the URL and any copyrights?
2. Who is serious about this?
You are literally my new favorite poster.
I just chatted with them.. they can't give owner information.

That's okay. We just have to push harder.

Yes that's exactly what I was thinking.

And the social media presence thing is easy. If (for example) the 400 regular users just shared the site's social media post on a regular and consistent basis it would grow very quickly. Just the Coliseum posts and relationship topics alone would kill.

But yes those would be the first orders of business. I'd say getting the group together is paramount that way we could possibly assign different tasks and see who is really serious.

And there is always getting the regular users together, pulling our money and bouncing as a unit. It would probably be cheaper too. People will come if invested.

I'm not home right now. I'll respond to your DM shortly. I wanna make sure I give it my full attention.
