Counter hit hitconfirming UNAPPRECIATION

Unless you are straight up fishing for a counterhit with a meaty attack, doing this is soo hard.The time you have to react to know you got a counter and then do your counterhit-specific combo instead of your regular one is such a short one and makes something essential (hitconfirming ) much harder. Then you have to make sure your counterhit setups arent spacing specific too. People also press buttons at the most random of times so you could get a counter out of nowhere and then have to switch it up on the fly
Ive never gotten this shyt down in any fighting game
what do you struggle with in fighting games?
