Because Haitians dont want foreigners with more money to own all the land in Haiti the same way it happened in some of the other islands. See Turks and Caicos and Cayman Islands where most of the land is owned by rich foreigners who managed to outpricee the poor locals. We been fighting "gentrifications" CENTURIES before you invented the word, doggy.
From the national anthem "Du sol soyons seul maitres" = "Of this land, let's be the sole masters/owners"
