HIALEAH, Fla. (WSVN) -- The parents accused of leaving their two young children inside a car parked at a casino parking lot, are expected to appear in court, Friday.
Hialeah Police Detectives charged 25-year-old Tyrell Johnson and his girlfriend, 26-year-old Josephine Laidler, with child neglect after the couple allegedly left their two children alone inside a parked car outside Hialeah Park Casino at 2200 East 4th Ave., shortly after midnight Thursday.
Surveillance video shows a security guard at the Hialeah Casino shining a flashlight inside the car, where she spotted the unattended children, two boys, ages 1 and 4, while the parents were in the casino gambling.
When police arrived, they found the children asleep inside the running car with the doors unlocked. Authorities then went inside the casino and made an announcement to determine the parents' whereabouts. Minutes later, both parents showed up and were detained by police. Thursday afternoon, the couple were still behind bars.
In juvenile court Thursday, the judge granted Laidler's parents custody of the boys. "I'm going to issue a no contact order between the parents," said Miami-Dade Juvenile Court Judge Michael Hanzman. "They are to have no contact with the children until they come to see me."
Both parents are awaiting a bond hearing scheduled for Friday. The next court date for juvenile court is set for Sept. 12, at 9:30 a.m.

The couple is facing child endangerment charges and have been ordered to have no contact with their children while DCF launches their investigation. DCF has an open investigation as a result of this incident. However, the department has no prior history with the family.
Hialeah Police Lt. Carl Zogby said he hopes the parents get some counseling. "I hope they make that one of the conditions or part of the conditions before they release the children back to their parents: perhaps, having them seek help. If they do have a gambling problem that compels them to neglect their children to leave them unattended, alone in the car."
This is not the first time children have been left alone in cars in South Florida while their parents or guardians visited casinos. In January, Anthony Wells left his two children, ages 4 months and 18 months, inside a parked car at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood. He was charged with child neglect.
In July of last year, two women left four children between the ages of 2 and 8 years inside a running car at the Mardi Gras Casino in Hallandale Beach. One of them said the devil was to blame. "It comes to a point where God is talking here, and the devil is trying to trick you here," said mother Mallory Pierre as she pointed at her heart and head. Both women were also charged with child neglect.
