These are my two favorite fighters in the sport. Guys I felt like were fearless and wanted smoke with everyone. I loved this energy because the media is always trying to portray great black fighters as runners and duckers. Can’t lie though, as of late it seems like Spence is hesitant to get in the ring with Crawford.
my analysis:
I think Crawford is the best counter-puncher in boxing with one of the best boxing IQs I have ever seen and an amazing ability to adapt and figure opponents out. He has a huge toolbox and is skilled. But what I think he lacks is that supreme talent or athletic ability. It’s why I think a lot of people and even fighters say they don’t see anything special. His hands are not the fastest, his speed/reflexes aren’t the quickest, he isn’t the most powerful, he won’t out athlete or just dominate an opponent with his physical gifts. I would compare him to somebody like Larry Bird, not much to look at and physically or athletically unimpressive, but skilled and has the IQ and just knows the game and is able to dominate because of it.
Spence has an immaculate jab and I think he is one of the best inside fighters and body punchers that I can remember. I just love his style, how crisp and technically sound his punches are, how he throws them, his combinations, etc. He’s strong, tough, and comes to fight. I think Spence is a better athlete than Crawford but he also isn’t the most athletic fighter. I think Crawford would beat and stop Spence. I feel like in order to beat Crawford, not only will you have to be skilled, but also you will have to be a great athlete and explosive. Crawford will time, catch, and counter Spence and close the show late in the fight.
IMO a fighter like Boots Ennis is the type of fighter it will take to beat or stop Crawford. Skilled and an athletic freak of nature. That man is supremely talented and athletic. Even still Crawford might be able to pull it out against Ennis because he’s great.
