The Wrong Side of the Tracks
One of my friends, Vincent H., went to prison at the age of 19 for dealing straight (coke). While imprisoned, he got his G.E.D. and took an interest in computers. As part of the Education program he was involved with, he got into Networking and received his A+ Certification and MCSE. Upon his release after 8 years of incarceration, a couple of the guards he did some work for while incarcerated put him in contact with a local Community College's IT Department. While working there, he continued to collect certifications and a Bachelor's in Computer Science. He also performed side-work installing/troubleshooting/maintaining networks for various businesses and religious organizations in the area. He also built a music recording studio in the basement of his home and got a couple local kids off the streets and into PC's/Music Production. His business and religious contacts introduced him to Sony Theater Corp. He is now living in Dallas, Texas where he is the Lead Systems Administrator for all Sony Movie Theaters in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

In his words, 'I was born a hustler, but 'Black' men need to find the right 'hustle' to succeed'.

The End.

It shouldn't be that hard.

You don't have the option to be a corporate slave and that in itself is freeing in a way. It should also give you motivation to go out and get yours. I have a degree and no criminal record but If I didnt have these things I think id be more hungry then I am now.

Find your passion and find a way to make money doing it. I know many people opening up their own businesses and in this economy its probably the best time. Start small.

One of my friends designs and builds furniture. Custom pieces that are very expensive.

Did you have to do some time?

nah no time im on informal probation plus i have the opportunity to get my record expunged so i am a lil better off then most in my situation but it was a burglary charge so it even harder to get a job than a normal felony

Damn this was the thread I was going to make....because some dudes at my old job (temp) got denied jobs b/c of their backgrounds. They laid me off flat out but kept them nikka's on. I was pissed at the time but when I heard they had records, I was like :ohhh: The job was paying 15 starting wages too and we all were trying to get on. They got job offers but were declined b/c of background. I'm like, here I am working my ass off and I get laid off (no records of ANY sort cept some moving vio's)?!?!?! Can't seem to catch a fukking break......but yeah with a felony, it's pretty much OV man. You can try to get on somewhere and work your way up but your job opportunities are now VERY limited. Only way that's changing is when laws change. I don't think many members of congress are going to pass a rule in favor of felons anytime soon either. They are going to keep nikka's down for as long as they live. Only way to get around this is to raise our kids correctly bruh's. No other way....

i have like 10 charges on my record mostly for weed possession and sales and assault and trespassing but most of them were sealed since i got most of them in my teens. federal agencies and people who know how to look properly can still access it though but since then i've graduated from college, currently in grad school, and i've worked for some pretty decent companies without any problems. i also never disclose that i have a criminal record when asked on job applications but most only ask about felonies which i don't have. One thing i've noticed though is that a lot of smaller companies especially startups don't even bother checking your record since they don't really have the resources or even care.

I passed background checks with some serious non violence drug charges on my record, most criminals don't get caught or snitch they way off anyway. i just check no on criminal history on apps if their interested in me as a employee am gonna make them base it off my work and experience and not on my pass. (if you can get your record expunged asap) my expungement is in the works!

But Construction is your last hope You ain't gone be no Felon doing office work nikkah :childplease:
