Just days ahead of his induction into the Hall of Fame, Cris Carter has received a less-than-flattering assessment of his personality and sportsmanship from former teammate Qadry Ismail, who played with the former wide receiver during his heyday with the Minnesota Vikings.
“To be perfectly honest with you, Cris was a bona fide diva,” the 42-year-old told SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio.
Ismail went on to compare Carter to Shannon Sharpe, former tight-end for the Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens, whom he said "was that kind of a guy that you just knew that he was in your corner."
"You couldn’t say the same thing for Cris Carter," Ismail said. "You couldn’t say the same thing as far as his attitude towards his teammates. You couldn’t say the same thing as far as his attitude as far as the coaching staff. You knew that he had a selfishness to him that was an extreme selfishness."
Ismail said that while he thought Carter deserved the Hall of Fame recognition, he wasn't the kind of player that would elevate his team to win championships.
“Could he flat out make catches? Absolutely. Could he flat out make plays? Absolutely. But there’s a reason why they didn’t go all the way and win Super Bowls,” Ismail said.
