Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest to ever do it

4 Ballon D'Ors
winning the Premier League and La Liga trophies
winning the Champions League with two different teams
scoring 50+ goals for....what 6 seasons now?
winning the Euro championships with Portugal

it's no secret that the PL was the best league in the world while he was there and when he left....now La Liga is the best

he is single handedly transforming leagues

hmm good acheivements but only 2 things over there matter
50+ goals
and winning la liga trophies

others are trash acheivements
he was not even in the finals

As to who is the world's best player, there is no discussion.
Here are the numbers:

CR7 has 51 goals and 17 assists
Leo has 58 goals and 32 assists

Griezmann could have taken it away from Cristiano both in the CL and Euro finals - but he did not.

Griezmann aint on that level

but Serie A was a defensive league back then. so don't expect much and the talents are spread, unlike now you have superteams
Higuain scored 36 goals there last season.
Serie A was by far the strongest league from 1980 thru the early 2000s. All the best players in the world simply had to go there (Platini, Maradona, Zico, Matthaus, Klinsmann, Van Basten, Gullit, Socrates, Laudrup, Ronaldo, all Italians, etc). They not only had the best strikers but also the best defenders and Italian coaches are masters defensive tacticians, so it's normal that scoring is always lower there.

My point is that scoring increased everywhere after 1994, including in England, Spain and Germany. It's just amazing how one rule change can have such a huge impact, a positive one in my opinion... I still remember how boring the 1990 World Cup was (Cameroon was the only excitement).

Couldn't be mad if either Cr7 or Messi won it. Don't take this shyt for granted y'all we are pretty much seeing Pele and Maradona play in the same era. It's gonna be a looooong time before we see players like this again.

the difference is that this era scoring goals is the only criteria to win this garbage. no luv to midfielders and defenders
just pure popularity contest. NBA MVP has more creds than this.

The full ranking:

  • 17th Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Dimitri Payet 1 point
  • 16th Robert Lewandowski 3 points
  • 14th Paul Pogba, Arturo Vidal 4 points
  • 13th Zlatan Ibrahimovic 5 points
  • 12th Rui Patricio 6 points
  • 11th Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 7 points
  • 9th Gianluigi Buffon, Pepe 8 points
  • 8th Jamie Vardy
  • 7th Riyad Mahrez
  • 6th Gareth Bale
  • 5th Neymar
  • 4th Luis Suarez 91 points
  • 3rd Antoine Griezmann 198 points
  • 2nd Leo Messi 316 points
  • 1st Cristiano Ronaldo 745 points

6th straight season with 50+ goals :umad:

Hat-trick to save Real Madrid from getting embarrassed in the Champions League :umad:

Goal + an assist in the semi of the Euro :umad:

Messi shouldn't even have 5. 2010 and 2012 ballon dor's should've gone to Xavi or Iniesta :sas1:

If the award was based on actual in-game performances rather than the trophies won then Messi would've been the one picking up that award.

Ribery should've won the 2013 Ballon D'Or as well, but that's neither here or there.

let's not even try to go there ? Messi winning 2010 and 2012 have more creds than Blatter helping Ronaldo won with the extension with 0 trophies :russ:

but if i'm going to pick i will go with Iniesta 2012 and Ribbery 2013 for a change but 2013 is already Messi before the extension of Blatter

Nonsense.
Just watch those games from the 1980s on youtube and see the blatant difference in players' athleticism and conditioning. The game was much slower back then and you had tons of spacing because the players didn't cover as much ground quickly. Players were allowed far too much time on the ball because they weren't getting closed down fast enough.
The best defensive midfielders in the 80s typically ran about 5-6 km per match... Today 10 km is routine even for the lazy ones. Soccer players used have terrible diet and many of them were regular smokers until the 90s (look at Arsenal/EPL before Arsene Wenger got there).

That was more of a sign of the times than anything. If CR7 or Messi were playing in a previous era they would have been in similar shape to those players. Conditioning and physical fitness just wasn't as big of a deal back then. And by the same token I'm pretty sure former players would adapt to the new training styles if they were modern players. You can't just assume that Messi would still have his athleticism if he played in the 80s, but simultaneously act like older players wouldn't get an enhancement in their form by utilizing the strength and conditioning methods of today.

In terms of scoring, the biggest change happened with the new offside rule they implemented just before the 1994 world cup. Before, you were offside even if you were on the same line as the last defender (the new rule also spelled the end of the "sweeper" position). That one rule change drastically opened up the game and scoring (FIFA had to do it after the record-low scoring 1990 World Cup). Platini was Serie A top scorer 3 times despite never reaching 20 goals.
Seeing someone score 40-50 goals was unthinkable back then.

That's one of the things I was referring to in my initial post when I said rule changes make it easier for goal scorers. If the greats of yesteryear played under the same rules that CR7 has they would have multiple 50 goal seasons as well. You can't put a black mark against a guys career for not scoring as many goals as a modern player when the rules make it a lot easier in today's game to put up big totals.

2012 was Messi's ridiculous stats of scoring 90 goals in the calendar year , i think everyone knew he was getting it with thatt run. 2010 is the first FIFA/France Football merger for the award, FIFA world player of the year was more name recognition of the awards.
